A number of residents have taken to social media to express their concerns about the current condition of Lake Cathie.
The low water levels and heavy build up of sand has resulted in poor water quality, small isolation pools and dead fish.
The Department of Primary Industries says the conditions are likely to continue.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council says Lake Cathie continues to be safe for recreational use.
