Newcastle trainer Kris Lees says Lucia Valentina couldn’t be in better condition for tomorrow’s big race.
“I think she’ll run very well. She just needs things to go her way and if she gets a bit of luck I think they’ll know she’s there.”
Taking part in just his second Melbourne Cup, Lees has been swept up in the emotion that surrounds the race that stops a nation.
“I was talking to the Andreas Waller the guy who trains the German horse he couldn’t believe how much the city’s got behind it so it’s great to be a part of.”
The only on-track racing at Broadmeadow tomorrow will be camels, but Newcastle Jockey Club is still hoping for a big crowd to help cheer home Lucia Valentina on the big screen.
Muswellbrook will host an eight race card which includes the Gold Cup.
