An important monument to Newcastle’s war veterans is set for some TLC, with the state government granting $47,000 for improvements to the Gregson Park memorial.
The Merewether-Hamilton RSL sub-branch will use the money to upgrade flagpoles, and replace lighting and plaques.
The branch says the funding will help preserve the monument for many years to come.
It’s the first year money has been available under the government’s War Memorials Grants Program.
