NORTHERN BASIN REVIEW FINALLY RELEASED

The Murray Darling Basin Authority has released its findings from the long-awaited Northern Basin Review.
The report recommends the water reduction target in the basin be dropped from 390 gigalitres to 320.
It’s feared the cut could put small communities such as Wee Waa under increased strain due to a lack of supply for irrigation.
Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce has established a taskforce to investigate ways to minimise the impact on communities.
Residents are not pleased with the findings, saying the recommendation is still 20 gigalitres from a level they consider to be acceptable.
