CHURCH SETTLES WITH SISTERS IN ABUSE CASE
The Catholic Church has reached a settlement with two sisters, who allege they were sexually abused by a priest in the Maitland-Newcastle Diocese, 40 years ago.
The siblings say they were abused by serial paedophile, Denis McAlinden, in the 1970s and 80s.
The sisters, who were suing the estate of the late bishop, Leo Clarke, reached a confidential settlement this morning.
Supreme Court Justice Peter Garling said the settlement was clearly in everyone’s interests.
