WILLIAMTOWN CLASS ACTION GETS UNDERWAY
A class action has begun in a Sydney court, over the Williamtown RAAF contamination saga.
More than 400 residents are suing the Department of Defence, after firefighting chemicals used at the base leaked into the surrounding area.
Residents in the so-called “red zone” say they can’t use their bore water, have been forced to kill livestock, and have seen their property values plummet.
Some have even moved out of their homes because of concerns their children have significant levels of the chemicals in their blood.
Lawyers representing the group say there are more than 17 other sites around Australia affected by the same firefighting materials.
