NEWCASTLE CITY COUNCIL BACKS STREET SAFE PROGRAM
The Salvation Army will continue helping Newcastle partygoers, following the success of a nine-month trial.
The Street Safe Program will now receive $30, 000 from Newcastle City Council, up from $10,000 last year.
During the pilot program, more than 50 volunteers spent Saturday nights providing assistance to 162 intoxicated people, and helping eight to find shelter.
They handed out 95 bottles of water, 1800 lollipops, and 180 pairs of thongs.
