  • There’s been a blow to the Prime Minister’s climate credibility with the nation’s Chief Scientist recommending an energy emissions intensity scheme – just days after the Government ruled one out. The scheme would reportedly save households and businesses $15-billion over 10 years.
  • There’s speculation some of the major banks could lift variable interest rates in time for Christmas. Some smaller lenders have already hiked their rates, despite the Reserve Bank keeping the official cash rate at one-and-a-half per cent this week.
  • The first American astronaut to orbit earth, John Glenn, has died at the age of 95. He’d often recalled how the people of Perth switched their lights on as he passed over in the night in 1962.
  • Gold Coast theme park Dreamworld will reopen its doors tomorrow, six weeks after the tragedy there that claimed four lives.
  • And Mick Jagger has become a father for the eighth-time. The 73 year old and his girlfriend Melanie Hamrick welcomed a baby “boy” in New York.
