LOCAL YACHTS DON’T FARE WELL IN EARLY STAGES OF SYDNEY-HOBART

In the Sydney to Hobart, and while the bulk of the fleet is currently heading past Kiama, it’s bad news for Newcastle’s two boats.
Dare Devil lost her rudder – the same damage that forced her to retire last year, while the race’s minnow, 72-year-old timber boat Freyja, was the first forced out.
It suffered sail damage, but will still make its way to Hobart in the coming weeks.
