OLD BAR BEACH CLOSED FOLLOWING SHARK SIGHTINGS

Old Bar beach remained closed today, following a shark sighting in the area yesterday, 30 meters off the shore.

Some beach goers chose to ignore the warning, prompting a message from surf lifesavers.

“the general sort of advice is avoid swimming near large schools of bait fish, dusk and dawn, avoid swimming if you have got any open cuts or anything like that we don’t want any blood in the water if we can avoid it,” Taree Old Bar Surf Lifesaving Club’s Michael Cameron said.

The Club is hoping to attract more members to help keep the beaches safe throughout the busy summer period.

It’s the second shark sighting in Old Bar in a week- the beaches were also closed during Friday’s heatwave after the alarm was raised.
