19-YEAR-OLD TO FACE COURT AFTER TAXI STOLEN ON THE GOLD COAST
A teenager will appear in court this week, after a taxi driver was assaulted on the Gold Coast.
Police say three men entered a taxi on Laver Drive in Robina shortly before three o’clock this morning.
On arriving at their destination, one of the male passengers allegedly assaulted the 63-year-old driver by wrapping an object around his neck.
The driver managed to escape, but it’s alleged the trio drove off in the taxi.
Police were able to stop the vehicle with a tyre deflation device at about 3.30am, at the intersection of Distillery and Fryer Roads.
One of the men, a 19-year-old from Kingston, allegedly fled on foot but was arrested soon after.
He was charged with robbery, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, fail to stop a motor vehicle, unlicensed driving and possession of a dangerous drug.
The taxi driver suffered minor injuries.
