Newcastle drivers are shaking their heads, after it was revealed coal trains are taking a detour through the city, exacerbating existing hold ups at rail crossings.
The trains leaving West Wallsend are bound for southern Lake Macquarie, but are instead heading north on a 40 kilometre-long loop.
