UBER DRIVER ASSAULTED AND ROBBED IN CHARLESTOWN
A ridesharing driver was assaulted and had his car stolen in Lake Macquarie this morning.
The 35-year-old male driver was called to Dudley Road, Charlestown, about 12.30am today.
The car stopped near a group of 15-20 people, and police allege a youth jumped on the bonnet and roof, before the driver was dragged from the vehicle and assaulted by four or five teens.
The driver was able to escape and ran to a nearby house. He was chased by two people who then allegedly attacked a car parked in the driveway with baseball bats.
During the comotion, it’s believed two people have driven the man’s car away.
The vehicle was later found crashed a short distance away. A wallet and two phones were stolen from the car.
The driver sustained cuts and abrasions to his arms and legs, but declined medical attention at the scene.
Police are now wanting to speak to two youths they believe can assist with their inquiries.
The first is described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander in appearance, aged 17-18, with a slim build, and 175cm-180cm tall. At the time he was wearing a black long-sleeve hooded jumper.
The second youth is described as being of Caucasian appearance, also aged 17-18, with a solid build, 175cm-180cm tall.
