BRIDGE REOPENS, BUT COUNCIL CALLS FOR FURTHER UPGRADES

The re-opening of Frame Drive Bridge at Abermain has seen traffic return to the road for the first time in two years.

But Cessnock Council says it’s also seen the return of an old problem, with many drivers again using it as a shortcut to the Hunter Expressway.

The council is now calling for urgent upgrades at two nearby intersections.

Frame Drive Bridge re-opened on Wednesday – two years after the span was damaged in the 2015 superstorm.

The resulting overhaul cost $4-million, and was paid for by a joint funding deal between the federal government and council.
