GREYHOUND REPORT MAKES 122 RECOMMENDATIONS

An independent report into the future of the greyhound industry has recommended it be overhauled.
122 recommendations were made, including establishing a welfare and integrity commission and a code of practice.
It’s also suggested tougher penalties for animal welfare offences and a life-long registration of greyhounds.
Racing Minister Paul Toole says the panel’s report has provided a solid basis to ensure animal welfare standards for greyhound racing to meet community expectations.
Former Premier Mike Baird attempted to ban the industry, but the decision was overturned following community and industry backlash.
