12PM NEWS UPDATE: FEBRUARY 17, 2017

Hi there, Paul Lobb with an NBN news update.

  • A tragic accident appears to have led to the deaths of three family members inside a water tank filled with poisonous gas on a rural NSW property. A 69-year-old man was conducting routine maintenance on the cement tank at the property in Gunning north of Canberra, when he lost consciousness. The two others passed out when they entered the tank to help. Police believe he was using a petrol pump, which caused a build up of fumes at the bottom of the tank.
  • A man ran from a house fire in Newcastle with his legs burning early this morning. The man in his twenties suffered burns in the fire at Lambton. The house was badly damaged.
  • Thunderstorms with heavy showers have crossed over Newcastle and parts of the Hunter. Temperatures are expected to climb into the high 30s again this weekend.
  • And Aussie rockers Midnight Oil have announced they’re re-forming for a world tour. The stops include the Hunter Valley and Coffs Harbour.
