DRAYTON SOUTH MINE KNOCKED BACK
The Planning Assessment Commission has rejected Anglo American’s Drayton South Coal project.
Despite the promise of 500 direct jobs and flow-on employment benefits, the commission determined a new mine would pose too great a threat to the Hunter’s rich equine industry.
The Coolmore and Godolphin horse studs are situated within approximately one kilometre of the proposed expansion.
The decision follows a six-year battle, and three previous rejections.
