CHILDREN WALKING HOME FROM SCHOOL APPROACHED BY UNKNOWN MAN

Police are on the lookout for a man who approached a group of children in a Newcastle suburb.

Shortly after 3pm yesterday, four children, aged between 10 and 12, were walking home from school along Wilkinson Street in Jesmond, when a man approached one of the boys.

The man spoke with another of the children, before all four became frightened and ran to a nearby church.

Police are now searching for a man who may be able to assist with their enquiries.

He is believed to be aged in his 30s, overweight with a dark complexion, short dark hair and a beard.

He was wearing black pants, a white shirt and rectangular spectacles. The man spoke with a slight accent.
