HEAVY RAIN ARRIVES IN THE NORTHERN RIVERS
Some residents in low-lying areas of the Northern Rivers are preparing to be cut-off, with a severe weather system bearing down on the region.
Meanwhile the Richmond River Campus of the Rivers Secondary College is sending the last of its students home, as it prepares to close.
It’s one of the first locations to see serious flooding.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, the heavy rain is the result of a strong cold front mixing with the remnants of Tropical Cyclone Debbie.
200mm of rain is expected over the Northern Rivers throughout the day, and it is likely that some locations will exceed more than 350mm.
It’s also possible the mid north coast will receive totals exceeding 100mm.
A number of the region’s river systems are on flood watch.
