THE HUNTER IN THE MIDST OF A BUILDING BOOM
Maitland, Cessnock and Singleton are experiencing a housing boom, with new data showing a spike in the number if new building approvals.
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, in the 12 months to February 2017, 3,760 approvals were issued in the Hunter – 1,333, of those were in the Maitland, Cessnock and Singleton areas.
“A hotspot for Cessnock has been the new Huntlee project that had an estimated 106 dwelling approvals in 2016. The approval of this and other greenfield projects in recent years has ensured there is not as large a problem of land supply bottlenecks that occurs in other locations in the Hunter, ensuring better outcomes in this area,” said Craig Jennion, HIA Executive Director for the Hunter region.
Industry group, Housing Industry Australia says the increased activity is welcome and ensures long-term prospects for the region.
