The Newcastle 500 track hasn’t been built yet, but Supercars driver Mark Winterbottom is confident it will live up to expectation.
“I was lucky enough to be involved in the development process of it … I think it’s going to be one of the best tracks that we go to.
Despite some residents having reservations about the event, the drivers are looking forward to it.
“The great thing about Newcastle, the fans are so passionate and they’re starving for sport. We’ve done a launch up there and got 3000 plus people just turning up to look at the launch.”
Winterbottom and eight other drivers will be in Newcastle on Saturday for a Community Fun Day on the foreshore.
