INDUSTRY HITS BACK AT MINING MOVES

The Thoroughbred Industry is calling on the Berejiklian Government to intervene following the sale of the former Drayton coal mine and expansion project.
The mine’s extension had sparked controversy due to its proximity to nearby horse studs.
While the Malabar Coal group has said it will only mine underground, those within the industry remain sceptical.
“we would be very keen to see the detail of this proposal but I guess our concern is these projects have a habit of expanding and growing and once mining has started on that site it would be more difficult to stop it,” Cameron Collins from Upper Hunter Thoroughbreds said.
