KEMPSEY CINEMA PLANS STALLED
Plans for a $6-million cinema in Kempsey have hit a roadblock, with the Office of Local Government rejecting the public-private partnership.
Council wants to enter into commercial agreements with Majestic Cinemas and Kempsey Central to build and operate the cinema.
But the OLG has criticised council’s planning of the project – saying it hasn’t adequately addressed the financial risks.
Council’s General Manager David Rawlings says it’s unfortunate no weight was given to the social and economic risks of the project not going ahead.
The matter will be discussed at an extraordinary meeting next Tuesday.
