EMILY WHELAN HEADING TO FIRST INTERNATIONAL EVENT
Adamstown’s Emily Whelan is preparing to head to her first international event, the Youth Commonwealth Games in the Bahamas.
The teenager is ranked number one in Australia in high jump in the under 17 division, but she’s simply hoping for a personal best jump when she competes overseas.
“My PB is 180 so hoping for something over that.”
“I just think it’s a great opportunity to be able to do this and experience a different environment and international competition.”
Off the track, the year 12 student is hoping to go to Newcastle Uni next year to study Medical Engineering.
As for her athletic aspirations, she’s not expecting to feature at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
“Yeah I’m thinking about the world under 20 championships in Finland next year so I think that’s the next goal.”
