CHARGES LAID FOLLOWING MAYFIELD VEHICLE FATALITY

A man has been charged with dangerous driving occasioning death following a fatal vehicle accident in Newcastle last week.
Just before midday on Monday, a Holden Astra and a Ford Territory collided at the corner of Industrial Drive and Tourle Street in Mayfield.
The male driver of the Astra, aged 66, was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition, but his passenger, a 65-year-old woman, died at the scene.
The 31-year-old male driver of the Ford Territory was also taken to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.
As a result of police investigations, the 31-year-old was charged with a range of charges including dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning death, and proceeding through a red traffic light.
He will appear at Newcastle Local Court later next month.
