HUNTER MOURNS ‘MR MOVIES’

The Hunter has lost a man whose camera captured scenes of life in the community, over seven decades.

Joe Laughton, seen here celebrating his 100th birthday, started out screening home-made newsreels in his backyard.

His movies of home and harbour life, dances at the Palais and beach days, are a time capsule of Newcastle from the 1940s onwards.

Mr Laughton was 102.
