NEW REPORT SHOWS REGION AT RISK FROM CLIMATE CHANGE
A new report has revealed the New England and North West could be at significant risk from climate change.
The Nature Conservation Council says local wildlife will face hotter and drier conditions in the near future.
“For example, the Northern Tablelands and the North West of the state could see an increase of over three degrees and a very frightening 25 per cent decrease in rainfall on current trajectories.”
It believes farm productivity could also be impacted.
“The report shows that we could see a 13 per cent decrease in productivity of certain types of agricultural industries, particularly those that are so dependent on rainfall.”
The group is calling on the state government to switch the energy sector to renewables.
