DEMENTIA DISCUSSED AT NEW ENGLAND FORUM
Health professionals and carers from across the state gathered in Tamworth today, for the New England dementia forum.
The day saw a host of speakers – including doctors and people living dementia – cover a range of topics.
Dementia friendly communities was also a new concept discussed.
“One of the big things we see for people living with dementia and their families is that they become socially isolated, they find getting around the community a bit more difficult.”
Alzheimer’s Australia says many communities are now making moves to become more inclusive of people living with dementia.
“There are several dementia friendly communities already up and starting to run. Kiama, Port Macquarie. I going to present at Narrabri tonight and they’ve been working towards becoming dementia friendly for quite a while.”
