Bellingen Shire Council has received funding to establish an environmental protection plan for Dalhousie creek.
Heavy rain opened the Urunga waterway, restricting the surf club and public access to Hungry Head beach.
The Office of Environment and Heritage has awarded a $40,000 grant for the study, with council to match the contribution.
“The issues that have been faced there for quite some time is the blocking up of the Dalhousie Creek which then affects the safe beach access for beachgoers and also for emergency response for beach users.”
The study is expected to take six months to complete.
