RESIDENTS ASKED TO REMAIN VIGILANT AFTER TOMAGO FIRE DOWNGRADED
Despite the bushfire at Tomago being downgraded to “Advice Status”, police are advising residents in the Port Stephens area to remain alert to fire danger.
The fire in bushland off Masonite Road flared up due to strong winds and hot conditions yesterday, and an Emergency Warning was issued by the Rural Fire Service shortly after midday.
Several roads and Newcastle Airport were closed while the fire was contained.
The fire is not being treated as suspicious. All roads and the airport have since been re-opened.
