Work will commence on upgrading the last section of the Blackhead road, between The Lakes Way and Diamond Beach, on Tuesday.
620 metres of road will be widened by nine metres, allowing for a turning lane into Federation Drive.
Along with a safer route, the busy arterial road will cater for local traffic.
Council says it will provide motorists with a safer place to pull off the road.
