Residents in a beachside suburb of Newcastle have apprehended a man after he allegedly broke into vehicles and stole a number of items.
The residents on Rowan Crescent in Merewether detained the 24-year-old male at around 2:30am on Thursday, after they suspected him of stealing from vehicles.
Police were called and he was arrested, and it’s alleged a large number of items believed to be stolen were discovered by police during a subsequent search of a vehicle.
The man, who was on bail at the time for other offences, was charged with larceny and breach of bail.
