MURRAY DARLING BASIN PLAN VOTES UNDER QUESTION
Both the New South Wales and Victorian Water Minister are pleading with the Federal Opposition to support the Murray Darling Basin Plan tomorrow.
It comes amid fears of a potential back-flip on agreements by the South Australian government…. A move labelled by the New South Wales Minister for Regional Water, Niall Blair, as a ‘mongrel act.’
“We have had basin states working together since 2012. Politics being put to the side to get the best outcomes on a triple-bottom-line approach for all of our communities,” Minister Blair said.
If the plan is voted down, $180-million committed to environmental projects in the northern Basin will be at risk.
That includes 28-gigalitres of buybacks in northern New South Wales, resulting in the loss of 56 farming jobs at Moree and 11 at Narrabri.
