POULTRY INDUSTRY TALKS ANIMAL WELFARE

Those in the poultry industry were today given a chance to weigh in, on new draft welfare standards.
From producers to consumers and welfare groups, the state government is working to improve animal welfare.
While some things, like cage sizes, are legislated – it’s being debated whether or not more needs to be done.
“There’s a model code of practice, which isn’t legislated. There’s certainly regulation there now, but some of it is a little bit old,” Dr Ian Roth, NSW Chief Veterinary Officer.
Stakeholders can also have their say online, with consultation to conclude on February 26.
