A Coffs Harbour local who illegally dumped rubbish at Toormina has been issued with a $2,000 fine from council under new legislation.
Since last month, penalties for serious environmental offences such as water pollution, illegal disposal of asbestos or hazardous waste have been boosted by the state government.
On-the-spot fines have now risen from $1,500 to $15,000 for corporations and $750 to $7,500 for individuals.
