Newcastle Council has unveilled a plan to transform Hunter Street Mall, into what it’s describing as the ‘Soho’ of the east end.
Blue stone footpaths, cobblestone laneways, a two-way cycleway and street art installations are all part of the council’s vision.
Laing and Morgan streets would also be upgraded, and the speed limit in the mall increased to 40 kilometres per hour.
The plan will be on public exhibition from Monday.
