WESTFIELD WAGES WAR WITH RESIDENTS

Staff are waging a silent war with Westfield at Kotara over what they say is greed.
The shopping giant is making workers pay for parking, so they’re turning to the streets, again fuelling anger from nearby residents.

After hearing this news tonight, I am not agreeing with westfields decision just putting it into perspective, as a registered nurse at John Hunter Hospital we pay approx $25 per fortnight for parking almost a kilometer away from our ward, in the open with no protection to our vehicles….if working a morning shift. A parking pass used to take months to obtain meaning we parked in the front carpark with a cost of $10 per day. Any casual staff or students also have to pay this $10 per day…. so $2 per day doesnt seem like much for undercover protected parking…
I work for Hunter New England Health and have to pay to parking. Most people who work in Newcastle have to pay as well. It is part and parcel of working if you drive to work.
I work there and its not undercover parking and anyone can access the area.
its not undercovered and protected at all. and its $2.50 a day yea it doesnt sound like much but is over 600$ a year and its hard enough on a retail wage.
While Westfield is only doing this for greed, for daytime workers and early in to the evening, their is an alternative. It’s called catching a bus. At Westfield, their are seven bus routes that stop right outside the centre, and then their is (while a bit of a walk) Adamstown or Kotara Railway stations.
you people are assuming that public transport is reliable in newcastle? hahhahahahaha
The workers at westfield need to deal with paid parking just like every employee who works in Newcastle CBD. If anything the shoppers should have free parking and employees should br charged a fee. Shoppers are there to spend money and ten get stung with a extra fee to park so they ca spend money.
