A 20-year-old man remains in a serious condition in hospital with a fractured skull, after he was knocked unconscious during an assault in Newcastle.
Just before midnight on Saturday a white Holden Commodore approached a pedestrian on Union Lane.
A man got out of the car and punched a 20-year-old in the face, causing him to fall to the ground and lose consciousness.
Officers stopped the Commodore a short distance away, questioning both the driver and passenger.
Both were released without charge.
