An urgent warning has been issued for maritime users – with 83 steel shipping containers lost in large swell off the Hunter’s coastline.
Floating just beneath the surface, the 40-foot long containers are near impossible to spot, posing significant risk to small sailing and fishing vessels.
The containers were washed from the deck of a freighter in big seas yesterday.
