WORK STARTS TO REMOVE DANGEROUS WASTE AT STOCKTON

Work is underway to remove thousands of tonnes of dangerous waste, from an old landfill site at Stockton.
The environmental legacy was unearthed earlier this year when big seas gouged back the dunes on what is now Hunter Water land.
Around 8,000 tonnes of waste, including asbestos, was then excavated and stockpiled on the site.
Contractors have now begun removing the rubbish, trucking it to Summerhill Waste Management Centre.
Dust and air monitoring will be conducted throughout the operation.
