An 88-year-old woman is recovering this morning, after being injured during a home robbery at Kempsey overnight.
Around 7pm, the woman was inside her home on Hill Street, West Kempsey with her 89-year-old husband, when she heard a noise coming from the back door of the house.
When she went to investigate, two men pushed their way into the home, causing the elderly woman to fall to the ground.
One of the men was carrying a wooden garden stake, he then demanded cash from the woman – who complied.
The woman then called out to her husband for help, before one of the men destroyed her home phone. Both men then fled the scene.
Officers, including detectives and the Dog Unit, attended the home and seized a number of items for forensic testing.
The woman was treated at the scene for a cut to her arm, before being taken to Kempsey Hospital for observation.
Both men are described as possibly being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance.
One is described as being around 20-years-old and 180cms tall. He was last seen wearing black-coloured clothing and wielding a garden stake.
The second man is believed to be aged in his 20s also, with a shorter and slimmer build than the first man, and was also wearing black-coloured clothing.
