MAN CHARGED OVER GLENREAGH CHURCH FIRE
An 18-year-old man has been charged, following a fire which destroyed the historic St Paul’s Catholic Church near Coffs Harbour earlier this year.
Just before 5am, May 27, emergency services responded to a church fire at Glenreagh.
The blaze was quickly extinguished, but the entire building was gutted.
Detectives set up Operation Dwight to investigate the fire.
Following inquiries, around 10am yesterday, police executed a search warrant at a Kungala home, and seized several items believed to be stolen.
A short time later, officers arrested an 18-year-old man on Taloumbi Road, Coffs Harbour.
He was taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station and charged with damage property by fire and break and enter house etc destroy property.
He was granted conditional bail to appear at a Children’s Court on September 13.
