There are no games in the Australian Ice Hockey League this weekend, but five of our Newcastle Northstars won’t be getting time off.
Matt Wetini, goalie Matt Ezzy, Peter Cartwright, Brian Bales and Scott Thauwald have all been selected to represent Australia at the Winter Games in New Zealand.
The Aussies will start as favourites, as they continue to climb the world rankings.
Meanwhile the Northstars’ annual toy drive for the Starlight Children’s Foundation is gathering momentum.
The team is hoping to have more than 200 items to take to John Hunter Hospital on August 29.
