BRANXTON-GRETA CYCLEWAY TO COMMEMORATE WW1 SOLDIERS

Branxton and Greta lost close to half their male population in World War One, and many of those brave soldiers were never given graves.

Now they’re about to be honoured as part of a four-kilometre memorial cycleway, connecting the two Hunter towns.

On September 10, the New South Wales Governor will visit in his role as patron for the project.

“Then we have an official fundraising luncheon at the Crown Plaza where all the proceeds will go to the cycleway to help us raise funds for the $1.7-million for the memorial aspect,” said Brett Wild from the Branxton-Greta Cycle Way project.

The cycleway will be jointly funded by Cessnock Council and the state government.
