NEWCASTLE CHAIRMAN ELECTED TO CRICKET NSW BOARD
The Chairman of the Newcastle competition, Paul Marjoribanks, has been elected as a director on the Cricket New South Wales Board, for a minimum two year term.
It’s the first time a Hunter-based representative has earned a spot since the early 90’s.
“20 years ago Newcastle was the go to venue outside the SCG for cricket, in recent times we’ve been leapfrogged by Coffs, Illawarra, Wagga and many Sydney suburban grounds so from a facilities basis we’ve been stood still for a number of years.”
Among a range of proposals he’s hoping to promote, Marjoribanks is keen to bring high profile games to the region, starting with the Women’s Big Bash.
“Yeah we’ve missed out this year but certainly I think there’s only some minor facilities needed to get it up to that level. “I think this facility here at No.1 Sportsground has been the home of cricket and I think serious consideration needs to be where that sits in the big picture of NSW cricket.”
