MID NORTH COAST POLICE DISTRICT RANKS IN TOP FIVE FOR STATE-WIDE FIREARMS AMNESTY

More than 8,000 guns have been surrendered to police and dealers as part of the statewide Firearms Amnesty.
The mid-north coast ranked in the top five police districts, with 79 firearms handed in, in total.
The amnesty, which ran from July 1 until the end of September, also saw the surrender of more than 74-thousand rounds of ammunition and 56 prohibited weapons.
Police Minister Troy Grant says it was an opportunity to reduce the number of unregistered guns on the streets, without penalising people.
