Police are urging business owners and employees in the Hastings to keep an eye out for counterfeit $50 notes, with three retailers already falling victim.
The notes look similar to the real version but have Chinese writing on one end.
Detectives would also like help in identifying this man, who may be able to assist with their inquiries.
Anyone with information about the incidents or the counterfeit currency is urged to contact police.
