It will be a smooth drive along Marius Street for Tamworth motorists, with road works now complete at the Fitzroy Street intersection.
The $1.8-million project saw the former roundabout replaced with traffic lights, which were switched on on Tuesday.
NBN News and the local member, Kevin Anderson, were the first to test out the new pedestrian crossing.
“Traffic congestion, the risk of accidents was high, pedestrians could not cross either so this is fantastic – it’s improving safety, improving traffic flow and efficiency.”
