MALE BOARDING HOUSE TO REOPEN AFTER MEETING SAFETY STANDARDS

Another boarding house owned by former Newcastle councillor Aaron Buman was in the spotlight today, with the city allowing the previously shut-down facility to re-open.
The property at Waratah Street in Mayfield was forcibly closed in September, leaving its residents homeless.
The council says it now meets fire and safety standards.
Meanwhile the adjoining property, which contained 10 dwellings, has been restored to its original state… but it’s not allowed to operate as a boarding house until planning approval is sought.
Mr Buman has since withdrawn legal action against Newcastle Council.
