Members of the Royal Australian Air Force, veterans and the public gathered in Civic Park this morning to commemorate the 73rd anniversary of the Battle of Britain.
Australians served in the 1940 battle in the skies over England with eight becoming fighter aces in the deadly conflict.
As part of the commemorations three Hawk 127 Lead-in-Fighters, flying at over 550 kilometres per hour, performed a ‘vic’ formation over Newcastle’s Civic Park memorial park at 10.30.
